Because all businesses are different, Vault provides the ability to turn certain features within Risk Assessment on or off to suit the needs of your Organisation.
In this article, you will learn how to:
- Access Vault Settings
- Understand and hide/show various 'Risk Management' settings
- Understand Risk Assessment-related options within 'Options and Preferences'
These options are available in Vault Settings, which can be found under the Profile icon at the top of the screen:

Tick to show, or untick to hide the following fields when working with items in the Risk Assessments Register:
Once the initial hazard has been entered and top-level category chosen, enabling this option will prompt for selection of a second-level subcategory.
This option will add a free-text field to the Descriptions tab, where any assumptions made around the identified hazard can be entered. This can be used to add additional detail which may be useful to those assessing or evaluating an associated risk.
Enabling this option will add a section to the Description tab where all people involved in the Risk Assessment can be listed. This may be useful at a later date, such as when reviewing a risk.
Enabling this will add a section to the Description tab where any substances associated with a hazard can be selected. This will link to and from data in your Substances Register, within the Assets section of Vault.
Enabling this will add a section to the Description tab where any environmental or physical workplace conditions that may be a contributing factor to the hazard can be listed.
Some additional options relevant to Risk Assessments can be found within Options and Preferences, in the General section of Vault Settings:
The Hazard Controls option will, if enabled, allow entry of existing Controls for a particular risk in a dedicated table in the Existing Controls section of the Control Measures tab.
The Post-control scoring for Impacts option will, if turned-on, calculate the Residual Risk Score based on the effectiveness of each implemented control, the highest of which becomes the overall Residual Risk Score. If turned off, the Residual Risk Score is calculated based on the collective effectiveness of all controls.
